Covered porches and screen rooms

Start with the cover footprint

Add a roof and fit it to the full deck section or the intended left, right, front, or rear region. Confirm the footprint before selecting detailed framing and finish options.

Describe the intended enclosure and roof form

• Open covered porch or screened enclosure.
• Shed or gable roof style.
• Header height, slope, overhang, and house tie-in.
• Post and footing support strategy.
• Doors, openings, fireplace, TV wall, and patio-only conditions.

Show an existing roof beside an addition

Select the roof in Decking, Roofing, or an elevation and turn on Existing roof under Roof layout. The roof and its porch enclosure stay visible in drawings and 3D. Roofing, Framing, and Foundation plans use the same pink linework, light pink overlay, and existing-work badge as Existing framing. Exported plans retain that convention; Decking, elevations, and 3D keep their normal finish colors.

The entire roof assembly, including its enclosure finishes, roof-owned posts, bases, and footings, is excluded from new-work material quantities. New deck work and its connections remain separate. Mark reused deck or stair framing with their own Existing framing controls; those controls keep decking and railing finish quantities active.

Existing roof is separate from the Existing concrete patio support surface and Existing roof tie-in. Turn it off to count the roof as new work again.

Review the cover as its own structure

Use plan, elevation, 3D, Details, and Takeoff together. Confirm the relationship to the house, doors and windows, deck framing, support posts, footings, stair circulation, and required clearances.
